First Kings chapter 19 today.

We're with Elijah, and he is in the cleft of the rock.

He's all the way down at Mount Sinai.

It's been a long journey, but God has actually strengthened him to take this journey. And God asks Elijah a very important question.

Elijah, what are you doing here? And it's not a rebuking question. It's a probing question.

Why do you think I brought you here? And really, what God is doing for Elijah is reenacting the Moses

scenario. Remember, God gave his covenant to the people of God through Moses at Mount Sinai,

as if to say, I have a plan for my people. I have led my people out of Egypt. I have a land for them. I have a plan for them. I have a plan for my people. I have led my people out of Egypt. I have a land for them. I have a

plan for them. I have a promise I will keep for them. And sometimes it seems as if that promise has

died. And yet I am the covenant God and I will keep my promises. Here's Elijah, and he's discouraged. He has confronted

the prophets of bail. He's waited out the three and a half years of drought. Jezebel has vowed to

kill him. And for all intents and purposes, Elijah has said, that's it, I'm done, I quit.

And God is reminding Elijah that, no, I am God.
