Israeli opposition parties announced yesterday that they have formally reached a power-sharing

agreement that will officially outspend Jeanette Nyahu, the longest serving Prime Minister in

Israeli history.

This agreement comes after Israel has held four elections in the past few years, which

left the country without a stable government or a budget.

The new coalition will bring together a large number of disparate parties, including

the first Arab party to join a right-leaning coalition in Israeli history.

However, the alliance will be led by Naftali Bennett until 2023, and for context, Bennett

is a religiously-observant former settler leader who opposes a Palestinian state, and has

been described as personally more right-wing than Netanyahu.

But if the government coalition lasts a whole term, it will then be led from 2023 to 2025

by a man named Yatir Lapid.

He's a centrist and former television host and news anchor who's considered to be a

standard-varra for secular Israelis.

Unclear of Lapid will actually end up coming to power, but I thought that we learned

our lesson about putting television hosts in charge of governments.

Regardless, this will all be finalized within a week or two, as the Israeli parliament

first has to formally hold a vote on it.
