Summary

Both Christians and non-Christians like to throw around the “don’t judge” mantra, but what does Jesus actually say about judging others? As we study Matthew 7:1-12, we learn about the types of judgment, the standards we should hold ourselves to, and when and how we can judge others.

Well, let's get to it. Matthew, chapter seven is where we are. If you miss Sunday, we finished up

chapter six this last Sunday. Thank you, Mosian through Matthew. Matthew chapter seven.

In chapter five, we saw the beginning of the sermon on the Mount, the beatitudes, not the do

attitudes, the be attitude, attitudes which we are to be.

And then in chapter 6 we saw righteousness we can practice, things that we're to do, practical

And by the way, chapter 6 has very much to do with our relationship with God.

But chapter seven deals with things that have to do with our relationship with each other

and how we're to treat each other and think about each other.

So, you know, let's take a look, Matthew chapter 7, verse 1.

There Jesus says, judge not, that you be not judged.

For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged.

And with what measure you meet, it shall be measured to you again.

Jesus turns to the topic of others and not judging others. Sadly, I have to say, this passage

is one of the most misunderstood and perhaps even misapplied,

misrepresented teachings in the scripture by believers and non-believers alike.

Like it's an amazing thing how people will use this phrase, judge not.

And they'll just kind of stop there, judge not.

But they might even if they know their holy, the good book, you know, as I mentioned on Sunday, they might say judge not let you be

judged. In other words, all judgment is off the table. And the Bible says, Jesus says you should
