Matthew chapter six is where we left off.

I want you to turn there if you haven't already.

And in chapter six, we've been following this pattern that Jesus in his sermon,

you know, he gives us kind of points.

And each point has something that's the same, and that is so far he's saying,

what you do, do it in secret.

And that's one of the the themes of this uh doing

things uh that some people are tempted to be seen of men jesus says nope uh let me just review a little bit

of a the past few weeks we've been uh slowly moseying through matthew uh because we're in the sermon

on the mount uh the longest oration in the Sermon on the Mount.

The longest oration in the Bible is this sermon Jesus gave here in the Gospel of Matthew.

But, you know, the first chapter there of the Sermon on the Mount was Chapter 5,

where we saw, you know, the course of the beatitudes.

And, man, it doesn't get more concise and perfect. We went through that a few weeks ago and chapter five kind of talked about more about what we're supposed to be, salt and light and

things like that. When we ended in chapter six, that's where this pattern sort of surfaced.

And the first thing we saw last Wednesday night was guidance on giving, verses 1 through 4 of chapter 6.

And the idea of giving alms, but the word alms doesn't mean money.

It means mercy, giving mercy or showing mercy to people.

And when you do that, you're supposed to do it in secret, not to be seen of men.

Not like the Pharisees, when they gave

their alms or money to people, they'd blow their trumpet. And they'll go, wow, look at those Pharisees.

They gave people money. Jesus said, do it in secret. And then he went from guidance on giving to point
