But the text for this morning, Matthew chapter 7, verse 13 and verse 14. Jesus said here toward the end of the

sermon on the Mount, he says, enter ye in at the straight gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way

that leadeth to destruction. And many there be which go in thereat,

because straight is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life,

and few there be that find it.

Boy, words of Jesus in the sermon on the Mount, if you're really an honest person,

you kind of find the sermon on the Mount largely troubling,

if you ask me.

Because there's things that make me real nervous.

Like when Jesus says,

unless your righteousness exceeds that of the Pharisees,

you will in no ways enter the kingdom of heaven.

Does that make anybody nervous?

Jesus said stuff like, you know, you've heard them say that if you commit adultery, you know,

you're guilty, but if you're a man who even looks at a woman with less than your heart,

you're guilty of committing adultery. Or Jesus says something like if you're, if you're angry

at your brother, you know, you've heard thou shalt not kill, but if you're angry at your brother you know you've heard

thou shod not kill but if you're angry at your brother you're guilty of murder and Jesus raises

the level to an exponential level to where you hear the sermon on the mountain you think oh man

who then can be saved and and here Jesus says, wide is the path that leads destruction,

and narrow is the path,

and few there be that find it.
