Summary

The Pharisees and Sadducees are up to their old tricks in Matthew 16 as they try to trap Jesus by asking Him for a sign. But once again, Jesus turns their schemes into a teaching moment to show He is the Messiah and that they should have already seen all the signs that prove this.

Turn with me to Matthew chapter 16 for tonight's study.

One of perhaps the most famous missionaries

was Dr. David Livingston.

And when he started his trek across Africa,

he had 73 books in three big packs that weighed

over 180 pounds.

But after the party had traveled across the deserts of Africa for 300 miles,

Livingston realized it was just too heavy, too much burden for the everybody that was there,

the camels or whatever.

And so he threw away some of the books because of the fatigue,

carrying all the bags and all that stuff.

But he continued on the journey.

But by the end of the journey, he had to throw away more and more books.

It was just, it was a brutal trip.

And he finally was able to only keep one of all of his books

and he kept can you guess which one yeah that was a good move you keep the bible throw everything

else out that was a good move um but um but all that to say you know um i think life is kind of like

that um the bible is what you and i need. All the other things are peripheral.

You know, the things that we think we need or the things we think are important, but I love that we

have the Word of God that remains as solid and as true as the day it was put together by the early

fathers, the canon of Scripture. I'm so thankful we have the Bible. And that's why we give a real precedent, you know, to the studying of the Word of God.
