Summary

The birth of Jesus in Matthew 1:18-2:23 contains many symbols and stories we often associate with feel-good Christmas imagery, traditions, and songs. However, there is so much more packed into this account. As we study, we see how Jesus’ birth fulfills prophecy, teaches us about true worship, and shows us how God wants to meet us where we are.

Let's get to it. Why don't you grab your Bible, turn with me to Matthew chapter one.

0:11.6

Well, last Wednesday night, we covered the genealogy section of Matthew chapter one,

0:17.5

and I hope that it just helped us be reminded even as we looked at the you know

0:22.5

various you know people of that genealogy and then the the ones that were omitted

0:28.5

which are interesting because there were reasons why certain names were omitted and by the way

0:34.9

some of the Bible critics will you know start, start to, you know, talk about,

0:40.9

well, there's a discrepancy in this number of people that are listed.

0:44.1

And it says there's 14 generations, but there's really only 13 in one of the lists.

0:48.3

Maybe you notice that if you were counting.

0:50.8

But then you have to kind of go back to the Jechoniah thing.

0:53.7

By the way, when you come across these so-called contradictions in the Bible

0:57.6

or wrong statements or whatever, there's always a good answer

1:02.2

and you just have to do the work to answer those questions.

1:07.6

And I think you shouldn't be easily derailed by goofy things, you know, the critics saying,

1:12.2

well, there's 13 people listed when there should be 14. And then you say, well, I'm throwing

1:17.0

my Bible down and forget Christianity because there were 13 rather than 14 in the genealogy list.

1:22.5

That's ridiculous. And people do that. It's sad to say, but there's actually reasons. And so don't ever be too quick to judge by those things. And there's websites. I've noticed that social media trolls, there's websites where you can just cut and paste all the apparent contradictions of the Bible. And that's what happens on Instagram. You post something about the Bible. And then all the trolls will start, you know, here's a contradiction of the Bible. And they'll start, you know, posting him. And some Christians are like, I don't know the answers to these questions. There are answers. And they're not even that hard. And a lot of times it just shows the person's ignorance of the Bible.

1:59.5

I think I mentioned earlier, one of my favorite ones is when people love to use the book

2:03.6

of Ecclesiastes to sort of say, well, this isn't true, and this is what the Bible says.

2:09.2

But you have to remember, Ecclesiastes was written by a backslidden sinner named Solomon.

2:14.9

And that's the point of Ecclesiastes, is he was messed up when he wrote the book.

2:19.2

And that's why when we went through Ecclesiastes, we had to warn each other off to say,

...
