Summary

Jesus tells a parable about a sower and seeds in Luke 8 to demonstrate how faith grows by hearing the Word of God. As the chapter progresses, we see this put into action as we watch how different people are tested by circumstances and respond in varying levels of faith.

One of the things that I think is helpful in going through the Bible, verse by verse, chapter by chapter, book by book, is going through all four gospels consecutively is helpful.

0:11.8

Some might say, Brett, it's kind of redundant, you know, like we're going to read stories tonight that we studied in Mark and that we studied in Matthew.

0:18.7

But I think it's really helpful to see kind of the

0:21.1

compare and contrast of the various Gospels and see how each one sort of took it. And as we see

0:28.4

the different audiences that they were intended for, we kind of see the same stories, no contradictions,

0:34.3

but from different perspectives. And it really is helpful if you ask me. So we'll see some of that.

Some of this will be familiar to you. But here in Luke chapter 8, we have the main topic, I think,

0:45.2

is dealing with faith. And I love faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. So,

that's one of the goals is to let our faith be built up as we read this chapter. But this chapter

1:05.9

deals with faith. And the first half of it, or verses 1 through 21, I should say, deals with the teaching of faith

1:13.6

or the teaching about faith.

1:15.6

And then the second part of it, 22 through 56, is testing of faith.

1:20.6

So teaching on faith and then there's a testing.

1:23.6

One of the things that's interesting about, you know, the scriptures when you read it,

1:28.4

you'll find that when you read the word, you'll think, oh, that's so great. And then you'll be tested

1:31.8

on it. That's why every time I go through the book of Job, I get the congregation come up,

1:36.5

pastor, can you kind of hurry up through Job? It's like, where you're at in life is where you're

1:41.1

out in the Bible. And I've just noticed, every time we hit Job, people are going through really hard times.

1:45.4

It's like, yeah, okay, we'll hurry up.

1:47.1

You know, it's a long book.
