Summary

Perhaps the disciples thought that everything would be smooth sailing when they chose to follow Jesus, but in Luke 8:22-25 they find themselves on the brink of death while being tossed about by wind and waves. If we likewise cannot expect ease and perfection when we follow Jesus, what then can we expect? As we seek to answer this question, we find the ultimate benefit we receive from Jesus and why we should accept His gift of eternal life.

0:05.0	We're in the gospel of Luke.
0:07.0	So we draw our text this morning from our upcoming Wednesday study.
0:10.9	So would you turn with me to Luke chapter 8?
0:16.5	Luke chapter 8.
0:25.1	Okay. Luke chapter 8. Question for you before we get into this,
0:27.2	why did you become a Christian?
0:30.2	And then also with that question,
0:32.5	what is your favorite thing about being a Christian?
0:36.2	And it's funny how sometimes I think we can
0:39.3	think about those kinds of things, but maybe lose a little bit of perspective that I think is an
0:45.0	important consideration. Why do you like being a Christian? Why did you become a Christian?
0:50.4	What was your motive? And once in a while I hear stuff from people that I'm a little
0:54.5	bit concerned about. What do you say to the person? I want to become a Christian because I'm just a
1:01.0	deeply spiritual person. That's not a good reason to become a Christian. I'm deeply spiritual.
1:09.0	That's not it. There's even good things, good intentions, and even good things that
1:14.9	are sometimes a byproduct of being a follower of Jesus. For example, peace, I just want to have
1:20.7	peace. And that sounds good. And I'll agree, Jesus is the Prince of Peace and Peace Give I to The, not as the world gives.
1:29.0	So there's a different kind of peace that comes from becoming a Christian.
1:32.5	But I'm not even sure that's the best reason, or at least for sure, not the main reason, to become a Christian.
1:38.4	Some of you, maybe you're kind of a Christian because you're born now.
1:41.7	God bless America, man.
