Our study we're calling Lollagging through Luke.

It's exciting, though, because we only have a, you know, just a few more pages, and we'll

have been through the Bible twice as we started back in 1996 in the Gospel of John and then

just kind of proceeded from there and went through two times now.

This is great.

So we're about to approach our third lap, which is kind of fun.

Luke chapter 17, a poem written in the late 1800s by Amos R. Wells. I'll read just part of it.

He said, I supposed I knew my Bible, reading piecemeal, hit and miss. Now a bit of John or

Matthew, now a snatch of Genesis. Certain chapters of Isaiah, certain Psalms, the 23rd, the 12th of Romans,

the first of Proverbs, yes, I thought I knew the word. But I found that thorough reading was a

different thing to do, and the way was unfamiliar when I read the Bible through. You who like to play

at Bible dip and dabble here and there,

just before you kneel a weary and yawn through a hundred prayer.

You who treat the crown of writings as you treat no other book,

just a paragraph disjointed, a crude, impatient look.

Try a worthier procedure. Try a broad and steady view.

You will kneel in very rapture when you read the Bible through. I like that. Through the Bible.

What a great thing to do. What a concept to read the Bible through and through. Verse by verse.

Chapter by chapter by book is the way we put it here at Athe. But we love covering each

scripture and especially the ones that maybe we would have a tendency to avoid or perhaps,

you know, leave off from the side and kind of say, we'll leave that for just other personal

reading or whatever.
