Today's 10 minute walk is helping you stay fitness consistent, so let's go for a walk.

Motivation.

It can feel really great when we've got it.

When we've got a tank full of motivation to do whatever it is we need to do.

Particularly if it's a choice we're making, a project we're undertaking, fitness we're pursuing,

when you feel motivated, it can actually make whatever it is you're doing feel more fun.

Exercise, certainly at the start, oftentimes doesn't feel fun, but when you're highly motivated

to get moving, when you're highly motivated, it can actually make it feel fun. I remember many years, right around

January 1st when I would set the goal of exercise, commitment to exercise, going to the gym or whatever it was.

I was highly motivated. I would get started on January 2nd. Never got started on January 1st,

which probably should have told me something. I'm not going to begin those goals until January 2nd.

I'm going to enjoy one more day of relaxation. But I

remember many a January 2nd driving to the gym and just feeling this excitement that was fun.

Well as the motivation began to dissipate, began to drop, the fun component disappeared,

because motivation rarely lasts.

Motivation, that is, emotion-based. It rarely lasts.

And so when we begin pursuing fitness, when we begin a commitment to

walking consistently, maybe every day, one of the big struggles is how do I stay motivated?

I want to talk about three ways that we measure walking as a fitness activity, and I want to

talk about the motivational aspect of each of these. One of these may work for you. It's possible

that none of these work for you, but let's talk about them. Number one is counting steps.

You have a step tracker that you are wearing that is counting your steps every day.
