The first section of Psalms has been called the Genesis Psalms.

They help us to realize that every good thing begins with God.

The Psalms provide a roadmap for the journey ahead.

In them, we learn to bring every emotion and experience of

And very frequently, I hear people quote the first part of this particular Psalm

in reference to nature and God's creation and the beauty of it.

But you really have to have the entire Psalm to get God's full message.

Psalm 19 begins this way, the heavens declare the glory of God and the

firmament showeth his handiwork. And then of course it goes on to talk about God's beautiful

creation. But when you come to the end of Psalm 19, he gets really personal. He's not dealing with

the heavens now. He's dealing with our heart.

Verse 14, let the words in my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in

thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.

We don't know when David wrote this particular Psalm, what the historical context was, but

we do know what it tells us about God, and it is this,

that our God is so big, he holds the entire world in the palm of his hand, but is so personal

that he deals with the intimate issues of my life. He is so great that he sustains the whole

creation, but he is also so merciful and personal that he deals with

my heart. He comes to where I am. It's one of these Psalms that brings comfort and conviction
