Summary

Two games this week. First, Tom Chick and Troy Goodfellow report on their experiences in the Starcraft II beta. It’s an old school RTS that eschews fifteen years of evolution in favor of keeping things as they were in 1998. What do we like so far? What do we not like? Meanwhile, Rob Zacny asks questions about Blizzard’s continued relevance in the genre. Then, Rob leaps to the defense of Napoleon: Total War. Hear why he will be probably be giving it a very positive review and why Tom still thinks Creative Assembly should be embarrassed. Stay tuned to the end for a reminder to enter the game draw for a special prize.

I'm actually coming to you live from my dining room, and Sylvia is right here next to me. Ready to go. See, Rob, your welcome is just so boring. Well, but it was homing. It was straight to the point. Like, hey there, Cass and kittens. Let's talk some strategy. Ouch. Wow, that makes my copy thing sound great, Rob. Stick with that. Excellent. So Tom and I have been playing some of the beta.

1:00.1

Rob is, of course, has not, because he's not cool like us, but is familiar with StarCraft.

1:04.5

You'll probably have some questions for us.

1:06.8

We're going to talk a bit about what Blizzard is trying to do here.

1:10.6

We're not going to talk, going to a lot of detail about balancing or races or stuff like that because, you know, it's beta.

1:19.1

A lot of this is going to change between now and then, and there have not released any of the campaign, of course, just the skirmish stuff, mostly for multiplayer action.

1:30.3

So, Tom, how many games have you played of the StarCraft 2 beta?

1:34.9

That's a good question. I do not know the answer to that. I think they track all that very

1:40.0

closely because when you now jump into StarCraft, you don't so much boot up the game as you log in to the servers.

1:47.0

It's very much a World of Warcraft kind of vibe.

1:50.0

So I'm sure it says somewhere.

1:52.0

I've probably maybe played 20 games and I know the Terrans pretty well.

1:59.0

They're the vanilla dudes. I quite like the Zerg, and I'm starting to discover the Protas.

2:05.3

So I have a passing acquaintance with it on a dilettance level.

2:10.8

I dabble.
