Summary

Civilization VI is a complex game. Not in terms of its rules, or how it plays, but in the reaction it garners from fans and critics. Of course it's a good game. Is it a great game? What parts of it are great and what parts aren't? Does the latest expansion, Rise and Fall, change the things that are holding it back? That's a lot of questions. The good news is that Rob, Rowan, and Fraser take their sweet time answering them in this two hour episode that goes from the fundamental aspects of the game real-life politics. So, settle in for a long one as we go through Civilization VI: Rise and Fall.

Hello.

0:16.0

Good morning.

0:18.7

So, as, since we've invited the Inspector of expansions, uh, onto the show,

0:24.7

you might have guessed that we're going to be talking about civilization six, uh, rise and fall,

0:29.4

uh, the new expansion for the latest edition of civilization.

0:32.8

And, uh, it adds quite a few things, but I'm not sure how much it actually changes, and that's one of

0:39.4

the things we'll be talking about. And maybe on a more macro level, we'll also be talking about

0:44.9

where we're at with SIV and what we think of some of the impulses behind the new ideas

0:51.5

being played around with in this expansion.

0:55.2

But, you know, real quick, Fraser, why don't you, can you give us a quick sort of thumbnail version of what Rise and Falls big ideas are that we're going to be discussing on this show?

1:05.8

A lot of it feels like it's changing the structure off SIV, but using the idea of unstacking things,

1:13.4

which we've seen a couple of times already. So it's like progress throughout history has

1:19.4

been unstacked in the form of an ages system, a dark age, a gold age, that changes how

1:26.5

you move from era to era. Typically, you're moving from ancient, what dark age, a gold age, that changes how you move from era to era. Typically,

1:29.1

you're moving from ancient world to classical to medieval to renaissance. That remains, but

1:37.3

there's more going on there. It's almost like a sort of a race to gather points, so the next

1:43.3

age is a better one for you. So it just feels like this sort of a race to gather points so the next age is a better one for you.

1:45.0

So it just feels like this sort of fundamental underlying progress through history

1:50.0

has been changed and unstacked.
