So tonight we're going to be discussing ancient warfare and wargaming, both on tabletop and on

Now, Troy and Bruce, I have to admit that this is a field in which I haven't done a ton of

wargaming, despite the fact that my background is in classics, and I tend to be really

interested in some of these periods.

But I tend to be a little skeptical whether most ancient warfare really makes for a good war game, and I think that's one issue.

It doesn't necessarily fire my imagination as a wargamer.

And I think, you know, part of my issue with it is just sort of this base level concern that, you know,

when you compare our body of knowledge about ancient warfare and the specifics of most battles

prior to like the late Roman Republic, it just seems like ancient warfare was either brutally straightforward,

as in the Hellenic era, with hoplites

clashing, or we are simply missing an infuriating number of critical details, like just about
