| 0:40.8 | Nice to see you all. Nice to practice together. I wanted to talk a little bit about thoughts tonight. In other settings I've been talking about thoughts, and I like to talk about it some more here. |
| 0:42.9 | Because there's this way, like when we sit down and meditate, like we just did for 30 minutes, |
| 0:48.2 | there often can be the sense of like, dang it, why are all these thoughts here? |
| 0:53.4 | Or there can be a sense of like, why is the mind so busy? |
| 0:57.4 | Or if only my thoughts were different or would go away or something like this. |
| 1:04.5 | Even if those expressions weren't explicitly said in the mind, there can be a way in which we have a little like |
| 1:14.5 | resistance or aversive relationship to our thoughts, especially when we're meditating. |
| 1:19.7 | And we're not meditating, we love our thoughts. |
| 1:22.7 | But when we're meditating, we often are, you know, wish it that it would go away or be otherwise in some kind of way. |
| 1:32.0 | So in this tradition, as many of you know, this is not about getting rid of thoughts. |
| 1:37.5 | We don't have to do that. |
| 1:38.7 | Turns out you can't in the way that you think you might be able to anyway. |
| 1:43.9 | But really, what's being pointed to you |
| 1:46.2 | is just noticing our relationship to thoughts. |
| 1:51.8 | So it's more about noticing |
| 1:53.0 | and just how we are engaging with thoughts, |
| 1:58.0 | how we're being with them. |
| 1:59.2 | Are we all in? |
| 2:03.4 | Like in love with them and being entertained by them? Or are we, when we wake up from being lost in thought, thinking like, |
