Summary

Hello dear friends—thank you so much for joining us on this week’s show. As Christ-followers, we believe one of the most important disciplines we can practice is having a posture of repentance. Even after our conversion to Christ, we still do wrong and succumb to our flesh on the side of heaven. But by God‘s grace, He has already forgiven every sin of ours—past, present, and future. And while that is comforting news, we are to never take advantage of God’s grace as a license to stay stuck in our sinful ways. In this episode, we want to submit to you some steps we personally take in our walk with the Lord after we’ve been convicted by the Holy Spirit. Paul implores us to examine ourselves in the faith, and reminds us that God’s kindness is what leads us to repentance. As His children, we do not fear His discipline and correction, rather, we can boldly approach the Throne of Grace with confidence as we repetitively return to the feet of the cross.

Welcome back to Asher Me in my house. I'm Jordan. I'm Melina. And today we have another thoughts and prayer segment for you guys. This is where we ponder God's truth and answer prayer requests and pray for you guys live.

0:27.0

But today we're going to do a thought segment where we're just going to take kind of this idea of what do you do when you're convicted of something when you feel the Lord really tugging at your heart and you just can't like shake that I have to do this. I have to obey God in this.

0:47.0

And what if you're at the point where you say, well, I know this is wrong, but I'm going to still continue it anyway. We just want to give you guys some practical five steps to repentance and what to do after you're convicted. So honey, won't you start us off?

1:05.0

Yeah, well, I just want to say that I've been on both factions where I feel convicted about something and I'm like, okay, you know what, I need to shoot something about this right now. But I've also been on the other side where I feel convicted and I do absolutely nothing about it. And then my life feels miserable for the X amount of time that I like continued to ignore this.

1:23.0

And that also gives Satan a foothold like, oh, see, look, you're not really saved because you're you would change if you were, you know, and it gives you a chance to harden your heart towards God.

1:32.0

Like it truly does like every time like you are just hardening it more and more and more and your fear of the Lord is just going less and less and less. And so it's kind of like a you're essentially doing it to yourself. And so I have been in that place so many times.

1:47.0

But I think conviction is something that people either cringe or just like don't know what to do with it. Conviction is not bad. It is a good thing. It's like the Lord sanctifying us and making us holy and like more like him. And so I I personally get really excited when I get convicted about something because it gives me an opportunity to chance to do something better.

2:09.0

And like to allow my heart to soften towards the Lord even more. So first thing when you start to feel convicted is praise the Lord. Like praise God's spirit for that because it's a good thing. I know we want to be like, no, I don't want to change. I don't want to be done. I don't want to do anything different. Like I don't want to.

2:26.0

And I know that's really hard, but that's just your flesh speaking. And so when you're just constantly feeding your flesh and hardening your heart towards the Lord. Of course, you're going to want to do that. But as soon as you soften your heart to that and you're like, okay, no, this is a good thing. Like I cannot wait to see the fruits that come of when I can feel convicted of this and change this. What's going to come of it? It's a beautiful thing.

2:45.0

Yeah. And then the second step would be to repent. Sometimes we don't always want to. It's not a fun thing necessarily, but it's one of those ways that God prunes us and grows us closer to him by removing something that was hindering our growth.

3:02.0

And repentance just means to change your mind and to turn around. And so you're having a head and a heart conscious decision to say, I'm not, I've been going in this direction and I will continue in this direction no longer. I'm going to stop and do it about face and turn around and go the other way or go the right way. So repentance is just very simply acknowledging that you've done something wrong or that you've been living a certain way or practicing something that's wrong.

3:31.0

And you're trusting God and asking him to change you and to remove this from you or at least give you grace in the midst of this situation to faithfully follow him and start living according to the will of the Holy Spirit.

3:49.0

Yeah. And this, this is where the change would happen. So a really quick example for me, I have been doing this Pilate class for like two years now. I really, really loved the instructor, but there have been some things that she has said and does during her classes. It's, I haven't done like her other classes because she does a lot of meditation, a lot of like energy healing and like stuff like that very new age.

4:12.0

But I never did those classes. I always just stuck to her Pilates things, but a lot of that has like started to flow into her Pilates. And so I was praying about it and I hadn't been feeling convicted about it. So I kept going and then I remember someone DMed me about it and they shared their conviction about it. And they're like, I would just seek and like see an ass of Lord like pray about this too. And so I did and then the Lord was like, yeah, you're done. And I was like, no, I don't want to be done. And I literally went to like go do it the other day.

4:42.0

And it would not load. It would not play. I could not do the video. It would nothing would work. I was trying for like 15 minutes. And I was like, okay, we're done. And so at this point, it's like, what am I going to do different? So for me, I've been trying to find an alternative.

4:58.0

You can work out with me. No. It's swole. I don't want to be a boulder. I want.

5:05.0

Excuse me. I want to know, but I am trying to find a different Pilates instructor. Find something else to do instead. Like in this case, it's real. It's not. It's, it's easy, but it's also not.

5:19.0

But in some cases, this would be the hardest part for a lot of people. This is the, let's say this is a habit that you've had.

5:27.0

You've been addicted to pornography for 10 plus years. It's like a habitual daily routine. This is going to be the hardest part. This is the part that we really, really, really need to lean into the Lord's strength.

5:39.0

And which kind of brings me to our next point, which is to confide in someone. Did I say it right?

5:48.0

Before this, I was not saying it correctly. And that would be to go to someone that you trust someone that, like a mentor, a friend, someone that you can connect with.

5:58.0

Accountability partner. Your spouse. Huge. Yes. And let them know, like, hey, I've been struggling with this. I no longer want to. I've repented and I'm burning and I'm going to do different. Can you pray for me? Can you hold me accountable?
