Hello and welcome to the Political Orphanage, a home for plucky misfits and problem solvers,

and a place for exploring different ideas, even if we've been mean to them, perhaps justifiably, in previous episodes.

For example, on today's program, we are going to talk about populism.

Specifically, it's history and the people who oppose it.

Longtime listeners will recall that I've covered this on two prior episodes of the show.

In season one, there's an episode entitled,

And a season two episode with Joel Stein entitled,

Global Elitists versus Very Loud Populists.

They're both good episodes, and if you're new to the program you might check them out.

But I don't want to preside over a gilded echo chamber.

I want to preside over a gilded thunderdome.

And so I have invited on Thomas Frank, a stalwart populist and

talented author to describe populism from the inside and to walk us through its history and its enemies.

And I'll add, I really like Thomas Frank.

He is a fun guy to talk to and he is a solid writer.

And I always enjoy learning how to think differently and trying on new ideas.
