Sometimes it feels like everything comes with strings attached.

So you think maybe somebody's just being nice, but turns out, no, they want something

from you.

And intern Sadie, it all started with the free soda.

And then it just snowballed out of control.

Yep, nothing's ever free anymore, apparently.

So this was back when I was probably finishing up high school was when all

this started. So I was maybe 17, 18 and my mom and I used to frequent this gas station. And this guy

would always give us free fountain drinks that worked there. You'd be like, oh, just walk out.

It's fine. Like it's just one drinks, two drinks, whatever. Well, that was nice of him.

Super nice of him. Did you guys have your go-to convenience store growing up?

Not really, because as a New Yorker, you pretty much go to bodegas most of the time.

So did you have your, like, go-to bodega where everybody kind of knew you? Yeah, you can say that. Yeah, it was like two of them that were pretty popular on our block, so everybody knew everybody who were going to that store.

No, I grew up at the suburbs.

So I was just chopping out whatever Wawa was closest to me if I was running out of gas.

So we had a, it was a minute mart that was down the street from us.

It was right next to the Dairy Queen.

And so we could walk down there.

And it was Avery was his name.

I don't know why I can still remember of this.

I remember what he looked like.
