Swift Runner was a Kree Native American who had lived in Alberta, Canada, in the last century.

He was a husband and father to six children.

His profession was tracker and guide for the Mounties.

He was believed to have been a good father and well liked by other members of his tribe.

He traded fur with the Hudson Bay Company and was believed to have been a trusted man.

However, that was to change when he returned from Winter Camp in the year of 1879.

The winters there were savage, biting cold and little food, and survival was a harsh business. However, he returned,

looking no less well, and in fact he appeared surprisingly healthy and robust. He even appeared

to have put on a little weight since he'd last been seen. What folks couldn't understand,

however, was where his wife and six children were.

Upon being asked him many times and being unable to provide an answer, the Mounties were summoned

and they went to the winter camp that Swift Runner had set up from which he had just returned.

His family would surely still be there,

if they hadn't returned with him. However, the mountains found only an empty camp and what looked like a grave. Swift Runner explained sadly that one of his children had died and been

buried there. The police disinterred to the

grave, and indeed did find a pile of bones buried there. However, as they looked around the camp,

they were also bewildered to come across what looked like more human bones, lying scattered around.

They found a skull, too, which I'm presenting to the tracker,

was told by him that it belonged to his wife,

that this was Swift Runner's wife's skull.

Swift Runner then sat down and began to tell the police what had happened.
