people during this time because they didn't take rain for granted.

They didn't have sophisticated systems of water irrigations for their farms.

It's interesting that it rarely rains in a desert place because God generally does not sin rain in a place where there is no seed in the ground. He sins the rain so that it will then

force the seed to germinate, to open, and to grow. And one of the beautiful things is that because water during this time was not readily available,

whenever it did rain, they would collect it in cisterns or reservoirs so that they would have water

for some other time, so they would depend deeply on rainwater.
