Summary

A small, broze-skinned man shows up mysteriously in a small Connecicut farming town wearing strange clothes and speaking very little english. A local farmer rescues him from a trip to the jail by offering to be responsible for him and then puts him to work.  Over time, the small man's unfamiliarty with everything to big machines to glowing fireflies earns him a reputation as a coward until.....

I've got a great short story for you today from Richard Connell.

But Connell wrote a lot of short stories.

I was just checking them out recently and found quite a few that are really, really good.

I'm going to start with The Unfamiliar Today.

A little bit more about Connell.

Connell was one of the most popular American short story writers of his time,

his time starting around 1920, 22, 23.

His stories were published in the Saturday Evening Post and Collier's magazines.

He had equal success as a journalist and a screenwriter

and was nominated for an Academy Award in 1942 for the movie Meet John Doe,

directed by Frank Capra.

And if that name sounds familiar, he was the one who did A Wonderful Life with Jimmy Stewart.
