What started is a welcome return this week quickly turned to the worst case scenario for

Steelers tie-down Pat Friarmouth. Coming back from a hamstring injury sustained in the

week four loss to the Texans, he expected to play today against the Rams.

Instead he re-aggravated his hamstring in his second day back of practice,

badly enough that the team placed him on injured reserve.

Friam Ruth will now miss at least the next four games with his chance to return in week 11 at the Browns, the Sunday before Thanksgiving.

In the third year of his rookie contract, this season was a critical opportunity for the tight end if he wanted to earn a fat contract extension in the coming off season.

It is hard to imagine that even an amazing performance in the final two months of the regular season will get him to that point now.

Instead, Friamuth will likely head into the final year of his

contract next season without that security, but with the chance to test his value as a free agent

unless the Steelers use the franchise tag on him after the 2024 season.

While the 2023 season has been a rough outing for Friamuth so far,

it's more about the way he has been used in the offense rather than his own failures.

Sure, he was never the

greatest blocker and his performance in that department has actually been worse than

in prior years, but he remains a reliable pass catcher. He's never going to be the contested catch master like his

teammate wide receiver George Pickens, but the tight end still hauls in

basically every catch will pass that comes his way. There just haven't been

too many opportunities this season. Bottom line, the team will miss

Friamuth while his hamstring heels. With Friamuth's sidelined, the team will more likely rely
