Welcome to the terrible take a daily segment telling Steelers nation what's on our mind. I'm Alex Kazora.

The kids, they're all right. That's the Pittsburgh Steelers' 2023 rookie class. Maybe they got off to a quiet start but a rookie class

and certainly not their career arc is defined by the first couple games of a season.

Now Joey Porter Jr. is finally being given more playing time and

responding even if the team is playing mind games with his starting status.

Hopefully it's all just a byweek ruse. Broderick Jones more than held his own in his first start a tough one against Baltimore.

Darnow Washington assumed a bigger role with Pat Friarmouth out, while Kioniano Benton has been the team's best rookie showing up

a nose tackle and against the Ravens at defensive end. Even Nick Herbeck who has cooled off since

a hot summer but he's been a multi-phase special

teamer while rotating in on defense. Aside from Corey Trice Jr's injury, the

only rookie that hasn't been visible is 7th rounder Spencer Anderson and little was expected out of him unless there were multiple injuries along the offensive line.

Overall, this group is on an upward trend. Patience, it's required and not everyone is going to be a high impact guy right away,

and Pittsburgh's deeper and more veteran team put up more roadblocks than past years.

It's not the same situation as 2021 when the rookies had

virtually zero competition, just a green light, into the lineup. But this

2023 class, they're improving and playing well in helping this team win. There is no doubt about that.
