We haven't reached the dog days of summer yet, but we are now in the fairly quiet period between

OTA's and the start of training camp.

At least we hope they're quiet.

When NFL players are in the news in late June,

it's usually the likes of Patriots Jack Jones rather than anything good.

The only Steelers report I'm looking for

is a contract extension for linebacker Alex Highsmith.

This past week, the new cycle did include

the ongoing question of who would win the starting job

at Left tackle.

Dan Moore Jr. who has started every game he has played since his rookie year

enters his third season with the team with a challenger for the first time.

Speaking with the media, Moore has made it clear that he won't give up his job without a fight.

He also noted that he's been working to improve his past protection in the off season and

believes he has made gains there. It was certainly a weakness in his game previously.

Rookie and first round draft pick Broderick Jones has said all the right things,

maintaining that he is just trying to learn as much as possible throughout many camps and

O TAs.

Speaking to the media after the final session of mandatory mini-camp a few days ago, Jones commented

that the battle to start is tough, but he is embracing the challenge and it will push him to improve.
