I'm Josh Carney. When it comes to the backup center position for the Pittsburgh Steelers

behind veteran starter Mason Cole, the Steelers have a rather sizable hole on the death chart.

In recent years, names like B.J. Finney and J.C. Haas and I have filled that rule.

That's not the case now though. Currently, Third Year Pro,

Kendrick Green is listed as the backup center. I can't be alone in thinking one word. Yikes. Green, of course, was the starting center for

15 games in his rookie season in 2021. It went very, very poorly.

Leading to the Steelers signing coal ahead of the 2022 season, and of course

moving green to guard where he backed up Kevin Dotson last year.

This year though, he's back at center, which is a bit concerning.

Offensive line coach Pat Meyer doesn't seem concerned overall though,

telling reporters during mini camp that the team has quote,

four or five guys capable of

playing center including the likes of green starting right guard James

Daniels backup guard need her big and backup centers Ryan McCollum and rookie Spencer

Anderson. You are not alone, if none of those names, brings you any sort of comfort at

backup center.

Herbig and Anderson might be the only ones that provide some sense of relief.

Though Herbig has just 49 career snaps at center in the NFL.

And Anderson was a Swiss Army knife in college playing all five positions along the

offensive line at Maryland before finally settling on center in the pre-draft process.

Meyer might be comfortable, but the Steelers would be wise to go out and get a veteran center and free agency to shore up depth there.
