Listening to defensive coordinator Terrell Austin speak Tuesday, it was a little disheartening to hear him downplay Mark Robinson's chances of making a defensive impact in 2023.

While he praised Robinson's progress and seemed optimistic about his long-term future, he essentially

said don't expect Robinson to be in the mix to start until 2024.

And listen, I'm the guy who preached patience during last year's regular season when

Robinson was a weekly inactive until the final couple of weeks. I get he had a steep

learning curve as a former running back in one-year college

linebacker, but he has not looked out of place in his short and brief

NFL career. He had a nice training camp pre-season and played well in limited snaps over the final few weeks of

2022, even if they were very specific packages suited to his strengths. Robinson has had first team reps this spring with Cole Holcomb's

sideline and reportedly made plays pick sixing can he pick at one practice.

I know it's just O TAs and he's still a young player but he's passed so many of the tests already that ruling him out right now seems premature.

A Landon Roberts he does have far experience, but his game is not that much different than

Robinson's.

Even if Robinson does not start, the Steelers should still find ways to get him on the

field as they did a year ago.
