Drew Aller has passed his first NFL test, the first of many he'll face, and comparatively,

this one is easier than the ones that lie ahead.

Pittsburgh made the unusual move of just carrying one quarterback, Aller, through rookie

minicamp. That means for the Friday and Saturday practices, he was the only passer. Usually,

teams bring in two in order to be as efficient in practice as possible having multiple

quarterbacks to throw to multiple receivers at one time in individual

work, for example, and to avoid taxing a single arm. Mike McCarthy admitted to reporters it was

putting a lot on Aller's plate, 35 team reps, especially for a guy's first NFL reps. But to hear it

from McCarthy, Allers stepped up and handled it well.

That's a good first step in valuable reps for Aller to maximize and grow, which is what

rookie minicamp is all about in setting the stage of. Now, once OTAs begin, Mason Rudolph and

Will Howard, and maybe Aaron Rogers will join in and take a good chunk of those reps.

But Allers showed he's willing to bear down and be the guy, if only for two practices, I'll take it.
