Welcome to The Terrible Take, a daily segment telling Steeler Nation what's on our minds.

As we approach free agency, Steelers fans need to be

prepared for the endless cycle of speculation and rumors, updated regularly by the NFL insiders.

And by updated, I really mean repeated, because there won't be that many actually significant

updates along the way. But when the story involves well-known skill position players,

any scrap of information generates interest, and views, and clicks. With the Steelers once again

missing a starting quarterback, we can expect that to dominate the headlines until Justin Fields

and or Russell Wilson sign a new deal, either to stay in Pittsburgh or move on to another team.

Both Fields and Wilson have been vocal about their desire to stay in Pittsburgh. Art Rooney, too, has been clear about the

team's intention to sign at least one of them, but never clarified which quarterback was the priority.

There is certainly some truth to what they're all saying, and there is also a PR factor as well.

For both Fields and Wilson, the easy and smart move is to stay they want to stay with the team they played for

most recently. Why say anything negative about the team you may be returning to? There's literally

nothing to gain. That's all on the surface, of course. For all we know, the Steelers have

already made an offer to Wilson and it's sitting on his agent's desk while he waits to see if there's any interest from other

teams. Supposedly, the Giants could come calling. Or Wilson's camp created that rumor for bargaining

power. It's likely that Fields does want to stay with the Steelers, but maybe he is pushing for

assurances that he will be the starter. Or maybe he wants to test the market and see what his price tag could be in a year where there

...
