In the 1810 win over the Atlanta Falcon Sunday,

backup quarterback Justin Fields was simply fine. Neither good nor bad. Just fine. Average, even. And guess what? That's okay. He did what was asked of him, avoided the killer mistakes, made the throws that were there, and utilized his legs to keep drives alive.

It was what was needed for the Steelers offensively, especially after the injury to Russell Wilson late in the week,

through quite a bit of adversity at the Steelers late in the preparation process for Atlanta.

Knowing all of that, it wasn't a surprise to hear Steelers head coach

Mike Tomlin state to reporters Tuesday that the team is preparing as if Fields

will be the starting quarterback Sunday in Denver.

Wilson remains injured, and while he might feel better now than he did over the weekend,

he's still injured.

And, as Tomlin said, he might not work until Thursday. The Steelers simply can't

afford to wait that long in the preparation process for week too.

Tomlin is making the right call rolling with fields again.

His performance within the offense was good enough against Atlanta,

good enough in the sense that the Steelers scored enough points to win,

thanks to Chris Boswell.

And good enough that there is no reason to rush Wilson back until he's fully healthy, even with the revenge game against the Broncos looming. Fields offers the Steelers the best chance to win the football game in Week 2.

Let Wilson heal up fully and then reassess.

Kudos to Tomlin for taking the right approach and not trying to play into storylines, even if it might be leaving fans and media wanting just a bit entering week two.
