Leading up to the crowning of Miles Garrett as the 2023 NFL defensive player

of the year award winner.

Much of what you heard from the detractors of Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker

T.J. Watt centered on his impact snap to snap, especially around the belief that teams didn't game plan to stop Watt, like they did Garrett.

It was silly then, and it largely remains silly now.

Fortunately, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVeigh, who played both players last year,

tried to put an end to that earlier this week.

During an appearance on the Green Light

podcast with former NFL defensive end Chris Long, McVeigh called Watt a

freak and stated that leading up to the Week 7 matchup between the Steelers and Rams at SoFi Stadium, that that the Rams

Rams, the Rams' at SoFi Stadium, that the Rams changed their entire offensive game plan

to try and negate Watt and his impact.

For two quarters, it largely worked. But then, Watt did

TJ Watt stuff, picking off a pass and impacted the game in a major way in the process pissing off McVeigh.

He might not have the best pass-rush win rate in the game or generate the most

pressures or even truly be that impactful dominant run defender.

But he's a threat to change the game on every single snack and even the best

offensive mind in the game and Sean McVeigh knows it and isn't afraid to admit it

Despite McVeigh's best efforts to negate Watt the star outside linebacker still made a play to change the game. A game that the Steelers went on to win.

That alone shows Watt's greatness. It shouldn't be up for debate at this point in his career.
