Welcome to the terrible take, a daily segment telling Steeler Nation what's on our minds.

I'm Melanie Freelander. I loved what the Steelers did in the 2023 NFL draft.

In my humble opinion, every selection had appropriate value and there's reason to be optimistic that every player from that draft class will continue to contribute, even the two seventh rounders.

That's pretty remarkable.

With that said, I'm excited to see what General Manager Omar Khan

does in his second year at the draft. I like his aggressive approach in for agency the past

two years and I'm hopeful that more glaring roster holes will be addressed effectively with this year's rookie class.

With that said, I am a little nervous too.

It's not an exaggeration to say that prior to last year, the team has missed many opportunities to rebuild a sagging offensive line through the draft and free agency after losing long-term starters to retirement over recent years.

As much as the Steelers fans were spoiled with Ben Rolflesberger at quarterback for so long,

we probably didn't realize how good we had it with a line of Morchis Pouncey, Ramon Foster, Trey Essex, and Friends.

The Kansas City Chiefs rebuilt a horrible offensive line in a

single off season and wasted little time to win back-to-back Super Bowls. If there was

any doubt about the importance of the O-line, that certainly answered the question.

Hindsight is always 2020 and playing Monday morning quarterback on draft selections

isn't really fair.

Evaluated a player's potential is hard.

There are so many factors that determine whether a player will succeed in the NFL,

including scheme, coaching, surrounding team talent,

mentoring, team culture, and on and on.

But if you do redraft exercises, it's nothing short of excruciating
