Welcome to the terrible take a daily segment telling Steelers nation what's on our mind. I'm Ross McCorkle.

For as long as I can remember the Steelers have had great players along the defensive line,

guys like Aaron Smith, Brett Kiesel, Chris, Hope, Casey Hampton, Cameron Hayward,

Steffon Tuet,

Javon Hargrave, and the list goes on and on if you continue to delve further

into Steelers history.

Hayward is 34 and will turn 35 prior to next season. Larry Ogan Jobe has been okay, not great and carries an

eight figure salary cap number the next two seasons as he turns 30 in June.

Isaiah Loudermukin to Marvin Leiao were drafted in the fifth and third round

respectively in 2021 and 2022 and neither have panned out with each spending games on the

Game Day inactive list last season. That leaves 2023 second round pick Kiano Benton as the lone long-term

building block along the defensive line. The 2024 NFL draft doesn't have the

greatest or deepest group of defensive linemen, but the Steelers must figure out a way to

invest in the position in the first two days of the draft. If they don't, they risk a dire

situation along their defensive front in the 2025 season. The 3-4 defensive system is predicated on stellar play from the line

and they have basically had that for at least the last two decades.

I don't think we want to figure out what the defense looks like

with the defensive line being the weak link.
