You've heard plenty about Arthur Smith already, the Steelers newest offensive coordinator,

and there will be lots more discussion ahead no question about it.

Ultimately he'll be judged on, like any coach, by Pittsburgh's results.

One element that could make or break Smith besides quarterback play which is obvious enough is how he

implements his wide zone run game. Nothing wrong with the scheme inherently and Pittsburgh even runs it.

But for Smith, it's his base run concept, his day one install stuff.

The idea he'll rep again and again and again until the team gets it right. Hopefully Pittsburgh does. The Steelers

were a zone heavy outfit the first month of 2023, never pulling their

guards and their run game was terrible

absolutely miserable it was not until they varied things up and added their gap in

power runs that they came alive the second half of the season.

Now Smith will argue his wide zone still is based around physicality and getting downhill.

But it is a different philosophy than the one that's been most successful in Pittsburgh.

If it works, Smith could recreate the success he had in Tennessee.

If not, this Steelers offense will be in trouble.
