I'm Josh Carney. For the fifth time in his NFL career, second year Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback

Kenny Pickett is dealing with an injury. This time undergoing surgery

on his right ankle to help repair a high ankle sprain that he re-injured Sunday

in a 24-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Head Coach Mike Tomlin said Monday that he and the franchise are not worried

as they sit here today about Pickett's injury history being a long-term thing.

But considering the position he plays, the

style in which he plays, and the tool his body is taking at this point, maybe they

should. In his career to date, Pickett has had two concussions, a rib injury, and a bone bruise in his knee.

He's missed just one game though.

Now, he has a high ankle injury that he tried to play through and only made it worse on Sunday.

He'll miss some time with the Steelers in the thick of the AFC playoff picture, which isn't good for Pittsburgh's chances, especially with turning to

backup quarterback Mitch Trebiski. But it's becoming a common occurrence with

Pickett. It's time for the Steelers to be concerned when it comes to his

health moving forward. Though they've thrown a ton of assets at the

offensive line in the last two seasons, the group still isn't good enough or

consistent enough in front of Pickett.

Granted, he isn't helping himself either, holding on to the football, trying to make plays with

his legs, and putting his body on the line at times when it's not necessary. He doesn't exactly have

the build to withstand that type of punishment. We're seeing that time and time again

here with the second year quarterback.
