It's 4.15am when Graham Perks is woken up.

Downstairs a conservatory door shatters, and for a moment it doesn't make sense.

He lies still, listening.

Then he gets out of bed and makes his way downstairs.

What he's faced with is the stench of petrol and a man standing dressed in camouflage and a balaclava.

And he's holding a knife.

Perks and I just want to say before I get into the nitty gritty of the case, as I was doing

some research for this, I came across a YouTube

video. It's a recording of Graham speaking about his life and his journey as a doctor, amongst other

things. He speaks so incredibly, kindly, and he is super modest. He speaks about how he was surprised by his grades,

how he hadn't expected to do so well. He's very friendly when talking with the others on the call.

And then there's this conversation part and he's speaking about how he's frustrated about the emotional

stress around the NHS. Honestly, with where we get to in the case, it really got me and it gave

me a real sense of the kind of person he comes across as and I wanted to share some of that

with you. So I'm going to read a quote from him. Just to give you a sense of Graham Perks.
