Everyone loves a good story and a good storyteller.

But there is no storyteller like the Lord Jesus,

and there are no greater stories told than the ones Jesus shared.

In this study, spiritual stories, we consider the parables Jesus told and their

application to us. These are truly the greatest stories ever told, and the Lord has something

he wants to say to you through them. Let's join Scott Pauley now.

Not far from where I'm sitting right now, there is a massive rock quarry.

And every so often you can hear the vibration, a massive explosion, as they blast more of the rock out of that quarry.

Rock is something, of course, so solid, so stable, so coveted today. People want to build on it.

And you don't want to build on sand to harken back to another one of our Lord's parables.

You want something strong, something substantive.

And that is why all through Scripture, our Lord is represented as being the rock or being the stone.

In fact, if you go all the way back to ancient Israel, remember,

it was a smitten rock in the desert that provided the water they needed.

And Paul would later give us a little interpretation of that in his writing to Corinth by saying that rock was Christ.

So we understand the symbolism of the stone in the

Word of God. Today we return to Matthew chapter 21, really to the footnote of one of our Lord's

parables, the last parable that we studied together, the parable of the husbandman and the evil ones who rejected his son.

The Lord picks up there in Matthew chapter number 21 and verse 42,

and Jesus saith unto them,

did you never read in the scriptures?

And I must pause a moment and just point out that he really's poking him in the eye
