Hello, and welcome to another edition of the Byron York Show, the no-chit chat podcast.

We'd like to get right into it, and what we're going to get into today is the state of

Joe Biden.

As everybody knows, the president is going to deliver his state of the union address,

and he's doing it in a very odd context.

If there were not a war in Ukraine, there would be many observers and not just Republicans,

talking nonstop about the disastrous state of Joe Biden's presidency.

His job of approval rating is low.

It's low enough to drag down his party's chances in the midterms.

Americans are angry, that's an understatement, watching their standard of living being

diminished by inflation every day.

There is lingering frustration about the president's handling of COVID and where things

stand on that, and there are widespread doubts about whether Biden, 79 years old, the nation's

oldest president, is physically and mentally up to the job.

So a lot of those things would be in play if Biden were giving his state of the union

speech, and there were not war in Ukraine.

The war, as emergencies sometimes do, has lent what you might call a new look to Biden's presidency.

The headline of a political playbook on Monday was, quote, a presidency transformed.

The New York Times said that the dizzying events, the dizzying events of the past week

have, quote, pushed to the sidelines, the congressional squabbling over Mr. Biden's domestic

agenda, and are already redefining the arc of his presidency.
