Summary

Loss can create an emotional cocktail when something or someone is unceremoniously ripped from our life. Amie Renaud and Joanna Henry invite us along through their circuitous roads through grief.  After the sudden end of a relationship, Amie embarks on a grand bikepacking trip. Right as she’s finally settling in, she finds herself picking up the pieces again. Joanna hadn’t reconciled the loss of her brother. But a visit from an uninvited, and surprisingly tenacious, guest, forces her to reckon with those unresolved feelings. Everything stolen in the night. My stomach sank as I stared at the empty space where my rig had been. I was 1800 kilometers into a 3,000 kilometer journey down the Pacific coast, alone with no map, no plan, and now, no bike.

He was my best friend, after all. Instead, I found myself with no partner, no home, and barely enough savings to scrape by. Those first few weeks were a blur. My life felt like a jigsaw puzzle with no picture on the box,
