Hello and welcome to Bible Stories. We are your hosts Matt Mullins. Hello and my name is Todd

Hamons and we are just you know two buddies who love sharing the stories of the Bible and we've got

to know one for you. We can't wait to share this one with you. Today mom's friends we're going to be

talking about well a guy who isn't super well known in the Bible but his name is Joseph he's from

the city of Arimathea and some people even consider him a secret disciple of Jesus Christ.

I would love to call you Todd of blank either your city of origin or your current city. Yeah that'd be

good. Matt of Crystal River. Todd of Leesburg. I wish I was from there. I know. I know but Joseph is as

we know him he is Joseph of Arimathea and he has not a lot about him in the scriptures except for

really the main event is when he does a real kindness a real act of devotion to Jesus after Jesus

has been crucified before he has risen again. So at this point we're going to set the stage Jesus

has been crucified it's just right after his death so it's on this Friday of Easter week and normally

the bodies of those who had been crucified who had been killed in this way they were not treated

with respect they were discarded without ceremony there was no honor sometimes buddy the

and this is this is going to be graphic for just a second so if you've got little ears hit

skip 30 or 15 or whatever it is it'll be real quick. All right sometimes the bodies were just

left on the cross for animals to attack it was it was cruel it was gory yeah they would decay

and eventually they were thrown into a common grave that was kind of the custom but Jewish law

however was a little different Jewish law required a genuine proper burial for Jewish bodies so

even though they were executed that didn't matter they still were given that right of a proper

burial well Jewish law also made it clear that bodies of those people who had been hanged they

must be taken down and buried before sunset so keep that in mind we kind of got a clock going

this is Friday something has to be done with Jesus so the question is what will be done with Jesus
