Welcome to Bible Stories. We are your hosts, Matt Mullins. Hello. Hey, my name is Todd

and we are two ministers slash buds who love telling the stories of the Bible and we can't wait

to share another one with you. In fact, today we're going to be in the book of First Samuel,

the first chapter, talking about a very special woman named Hannah. And so brother Matt,

how about you tell us a little bit about sweet Hannah? Well, buddy, our story takes place at the time

of the Judges and this story is happening toward the end of that season. So you were called that

the time of the Judges really was just kind of a wacky pack season for Israel. There's all sorts

associated shenanigans. Everyone did what was right in their own eyes is how the Bible describes it.

So people are just kind of going just on their own. You see some crazy stuff during the time of

the Judges. The first character in our story falls into that category. His name is Elkina and he

lives in the hill country. So he's about like 20 miles north of Jerusalem or so. So Elkina,

he has two wives, Todd. Wow. Okay. Yeah. Hannah and Penina. Now, from the jump of this story,

you know, you and I, we want to make it clear that God does not sanction men to take

several wives and marriage. Yeah, that's right. Yeah, he's not condoning it. He's just, the Bible

was just saying that this man had two. Yep. And what's the sad thing is is this was not an

uncommon practice in that time in Israel's history because what would happen is if a woman could not

conceive the husband sometimes would take another wife, just in efforts to have children. And

yeah, you can probably, you're listening to this come up mom with some some stories, even yourself

through the scripture where we've seen this before. And it did not turn out well. True.

Well, again, this is not something that God wants. It's not something that he wanted for them

for Elkina. It's not something he wants for us. It's, it's really in a front to the scriptures.

Well, Elkina is not what we would describe as a totally righteous dude, evidence by the fact that
