You can see me in the dark. I wasn't really sure where to start beyond if you, um, where would you typically start

in telling this story on seeing the Queen Mary for the first time?

Well, I tell you, I've been giving at some thought, and I had the opportunity to witness

a pretty unusual situation.

This isn't typically how we start an episode, but it's not typical we have the opportunity

to have on the podcast a 99-year-old former army captain that was aboard the Queen Mary.

And who also happens to be my grandfather.

Some 78 years ago, Dr. Don Webb stepped aboard

the famed ship known as the Grey Ghost, the Queen Mary.

And he sailed across the Atlantic to serve in World War II.

I was better still on Staten Island for two weeks,

prior to going overseas.

And I would get up in the morning and

In the harbor maybe I'd sit a few ships and so forth the next morning I'd see some more ships and so forth

And finally I got to where there were so many ships and had a fairy could hardly get through from one side

to the other and

then next morning, nothing, they

all left. And then maybe a day or two later, I got up and they had to queen Mary. When

our unit got on the queen Mary, we were told that in peacetime that they had a crew and passengers total of about 5,000 people. Now we had, we were

told, what about 15,000? Now our hospital was made up of over 1,000 of so crowded, even though it was as large as it is, that the troops slept in
