0:49.5	asking. I'm excited that you are here as well. Today we're going to be talking about reactions to survivors and the way survivors are treated.
0:56.5	We're also going to discuss your book. And for those that do not know, Dr. Nicole Baderer. You've just recently wrote a book called On the Wrong Side, How Universities Protect Perpetrators and Betray Survivors of Sexual Violence. We will be discussing that today, but your overall expertise is in
1:15.8	reactions to survivors and the way survivors are treated. And I've listened to at least a
1:25.3	thousand survivor stories. We've put out over 400, but I've listened to a lot of them.
1:32.4	And there are just so many times where survivors aren't heard.
1:41.3	Survivors are doing their best to communicate what has happened.
1:48.2	And the expectation of how a survivor is supposed to communicate gets mixed up.
1:56.4	Well, if this person is acting this way and the perpetrator or the alleged perpetrator
2:00.7	is acting this way, why are they acting the alleged perpetrator is acting this way,
2:01.9	why are they acting so calm? And then we go back and think of Gabby Petito and everyone's
2:06.0	different opinions of what went on there. And you saw that Gabby Petito, it's very hard to be
2:11.0	calm in this situation. And then the eventual murderer in this case, calm as a cucumber, as nothing happened, and everyone's
2:21.3	reacting. And also, it's our public opinion as well of what's going on in these situations.
2:32.0	And a lot of the times people will say, I know I'm right. I know what I am
2:37.4	choosing is right and who's reacting to what. And people are a lot of times trying to play their
2:42.5	own investigator in these situations and making judgments. And I think that is, in my opinion, maybe the first problem and you'll go into it.
2:54.0	It's like, instead of judging, I assume, let's just start off by listening.
3:00.4	So I guess with all of what I just said, I guess take it away on, you know, how, first of you, how you got into this
3:09.6	and just this topic, because it's just a huge problem when it comes to law enforcement, custody,
