As a As the Delta variant surges and the nation divides over vaccine and mask mandates,

this week I sat down with former CDC director Dr. Robert Redfield about the bigger picture and why it's critical to uncover COVID's origins.

He says the virus was engineered in the Wuhan lab.

And because of that, quote, the risk of variant evolution is extremely high.

Dr. Redfield joins me now with his untold story.

We haven't heard from you since this Delta variant really took off.

What's your take?

Well, I think right now, Martha, it's very clear that we are in the midst of substantial

increase infection across the country because the Delta variant really is so more infectious than even the UK

invariant. And obviously that was more infectious than the Hounan invariant. And so this

particular variant has a great ease to transmit human to human. So you hear the discussions

about children, about perhaps not going back to school, another remote

year, and there was a lot of pushback from Dr. Marty McCarrie in the Wall Street Journal today,

saying kids need to be in school and they need to not be wearing masks, that the health impact of

that is more detrimental than the risk that they face.

What do you say? Do you agree with that?

I've always felt, Martha, even back for the first shutdown, that the public health interest of the students K through 12 was to keep them in face-to-face learning.
