The Perseptial. The perception around motherhood today has become increasingly more negative,

implying that being a mother means stopping your life and moving on with some new life as just a mom.

Mother of five and contributing writer to Desirette magazine, Bethany Mandel joins me with her untold story to discuss her recent op-ed, which is called Modern Motherhood, has a PR problem.

Hi, Bethany.

It's great to talk to you, and I know that I'm being around by your beautiful kids.

So I appreciate you taking the time to do this.

No, it's my pleasure.

This is exactly what I love to be doing, promoting motherhood while also being in the thick of it.

You know, I read your piece, and I was thinking a lot about sort of the images and the things that we all grew up with that made

motherhood look really enticing and great, you know, like some of the old TV shows and there

used to be this show called Eight is Enough that I loved with like the Van Patten family and, you know,

they had eight kids and I just thought it was the most amazing magical show.

And I remember people asking me what I wanted to do when I grew up and I would always say,

you know, well, I know I want to be a mom and I'm not sure what I want to do through that.

So I do think there used to be all these great images on TV of just like big happy family.

It's the Brady Bunch, you know.
