I am hugely blessed this evening to be at the 11th birthday party of Olivia Canili.

We've been praying for Olivia for many years.

Now I just came back, as you all know,

from the beatification of Pauline Jericho. It took one miracle so that she could be

beatified. She needs another miracle to be canonized and Jesus wants us to pray with expectant faith. So we are going to begin

beseeching, beaging, laying siege.

laying siege to heaven in Pauline Jericho.

For the healing of Olivia Caneli and this young woman Margo outside of Dallas

Let's call the mind all those we've promised to pray for, especially for Olivia and for Margot.

Now we've been meditating on the vices that prevent the Holy Spirit from filling our souls as we travel to Pentecost.

Today we're meditating on the vice of envy.

Envy is the vice that makes us sad when something good happens to someone else.

Envy springs from an essentially competitive mindset.

It says, I'm diminished by this other person's good, and I'm increased by their downfall.

So envy is the opposite of gratitude. Instead of saying thank you, what I have is so much more than I deserve.

With envy, we say, I want he has, or I want what she has. So envy is a particularly perverse sin. Other sins want something
