Has it ever occurred to you that human beings are so confident in how much they know?

When you think about the human species, how long we've been around, it is a blip in history.

And I will always remember hearing someone say, and this statistic might not be perfect but you get the gist that

something like 80% of the earth's surface is water and we don't know beneath a

certainty level anything that's in the ocean. It is a mystery to us.

Something like at least 50 or 60% of what's in the ocean we don't even know for sure about.

And I just think, wow, and yet every human being seems to know everything, right?

We are so certain of what we believe, so certain of our knowledge, so certain of the facts,

and this can be dangerous. First of all, it's extremely limiting because if you're like,

this is the truth, this isn't the truth, this is right, that's wrong.

This is what we need to pay attention to and what we need to do and this is the only way.

Think about how much you leave out, how much possibility, how much of a lack of curiosity

there is in our lives when we're so knowing. And then, you know,

secondly when you think about it when we're so sure when we're just, you know,

the certainty that we have about the world about the facts about the truth

what if we're wrong what if we're wrong what about practicing I always like to think

I mean this is also very Buddhist like not having such a knowing mind, having a beginner's mind, not being so sure, being more open with what it is I will allow in, conversations I'll have, facts that

I will entertain.

How much more does that open up the world to me than having a very closed and fixed mindset, closed idea about the world?
