37 in the English standard version of the scriptures, Jesus replied, a man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho,

and he fell among robbers who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. Now, by chance, a priest was going down that road, and when he saw saw him he passed by on the other side.

So likewise a Levite when he came to the place and saw him pass by on the other side.

But a Samaritan as he journeyed came to where he was and he saw him, he had compassion. He went to him and bound

up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. And then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an

inn and took care of him. And the next day, he took out to DeNari and gave them to the innkeeper saying,

Take care of him. And whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.

Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?

He said the one who showed him mercy. And Jesus said to him,

you go and do likewise. And I'm speaking today from the subject, the power of empathy. The power

of empathy. You may be seated. Here is a very compelling story that Jesus gives the parable of the Good Samaritan in response to a question that he has been asked by an attorney.

You know, attorneys are trained to. he has been asked by an attorney.

You know, attorneys are trained to sometimes be cantankerous and to shift things and manipulate words

and, you know, they have to be trained to argue both sides of an argument.

So it asked the question, the attorney asked,

what must I do to inherit eternal life?

And Jesus says to him,

you have to love God with all your heart,

your mind, your soul, and your string, and then love your neighbor as you love yourself. And so in the cross-examination, the attorney asked him,

okay, so if you say that, Jesus, who is my neighbor?

I mean, dude, you've been to law school. You ought to know what a neighbor is. But he asked the

question, who is my neighbor? And Jesus now, in answering the question, he didn't just tell him, Jesus gave him this parable of the Good Samaritan,
