Our text for today is Hebrews chapter 4, chapter 2 and verse 1.

The new living translation of the scripture, notice there these words,

So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.

And I'm speaking today simply from the subject, the drift.

The drift.

You may be seated.

If anybody has ever, as a parent, been out with a child and going to the store or going

out in a festival, some type of celebration, going to the

beach. If you don't watch children, they will drift off. I don't know whether there's just

natural curiosity of children, but children will drift. The bishop was guilty of that himself when I was a young child.

I drifted out of the house and down the driveway and one of my neighbors picked me up, took me to the store with her.

My mother was in a panic.

I'm the baby in the family at the time, child number four out of six.

And she turned around and she said, Lord, my husband is going to kill me because I've lost one of the children.

And frantically looking every place that she knew to look and exhausted.

She went out and stood on the porch and looked and all of a sudden here comes the neighbor

riding up in the car in my little head, I'd been to the store

with her. And the way that a parent is, after a child has drifted off, when you find them,

there is a relief and you want to hug your child

and said oh thank God my child is unharmed but after that comes the scolding that

why don't you walk off from here you're new better than to go out there you

don't even know who that was.
