He served for a time there as Dean of Humanities and Chairman of the Department.

He's written on 17th century poetry and modern poetry.

His books including studies of Henry Vaughn,

Thomas Brown and Shakespeare, and Anthony Hecht,

and a new book on Elizabeth Bishop,

entitled Elizabeth Bishop A Very Short Introduction.
